MAZDASPEED, SpeedSource, and Riley Combine For RX-8 GT Development

Anticipation grows as MAZDASPEED Motorsports Development announced November 17th a new Mazda RX-8 for the Grand American Rolex Series. Developed by SpeedSource Race Engineering, MAZDASPEED Motorsports Development, and Riley Technologies, the GT-class RX-8 is based on a tube-frame chassis with a carbon-fiber body by Downing/Atlanta. "Working to further enhance the performance image of the RX-8 is an important element of our expansion into GT-class racing," said SpeedSource team owner Sylvain Tremblay. "We are excited to be building upon the proven reliability of the rotary engine and feel our work with MAZDASPEED Motorsports Development and Riley Technologies will bring a reliable, competitive package to the series." Bill Riley of Riley Technologies is optimistic for the RX-8 GT car. Riley commented, "It is amazing to be working with SpeedSource and Mazda. Within this environment you get to work closely with everyone. All three groups want the same goals and that is important. At Riley Technologies we like to diversify our company and are always at the race track. With this Mazda RX-8 project we are able to work with Sylvain [Tremblay], SpeedSource and are honored to work with Mazda. The car will impact the series greatly and we are looking forward to some great success in 2006." The Florida-based SpeedSource is no stranger to success. In their ongoing Grand-Am Cup Mazda RX-8 program, the light and nimble package of the ST-class RX-8 has won two consecutive Grand-Am Cup championships. The GT-class RX-8 embodies the philosophy SpeedSource wishes to bring to the Grand American Rolex series. For Steve Sanders, manager of MAZDASPEED Motorsports Development, the new GT program is a fitting next step in the growth of RX-8 racing. "Expanding our support to competitors interested in racing the RX-8 in the Grand American GT class is a logical extension of our motorsports program. SpeedSource has had a very busy year and was instrumental in bringing this program together. They spent much of the year winning the team, driver and manufacturer's championship in their Mazda RX-8 for the Grand-Am Cup Sport Touring class. However, they also were busy with exhaustive Mazda 20B three-rotor engine development," stated Sanders. The GT-class Mazda RX-8 comes with carbon-fiber bodywork, a Mazda 20B three-rotor engine, and components for the Grand American GT class. The chassis built by renowned chassis developer, Riley Technologies, was created specifically for 20B three-rotor engine. Selected for performance excellence in the Grand American Rolex series, the car can come equipped with a six-speed EMCO sequential transaxle. Individuals interested in additional specs, or those wishing to order the chassis and complete Mazda 20B three-rotor engine should contact SpeedSource, Inc. at 954-578-7071.
